Yes, he makes constructions out of and photographs real dead bodies. I've been fascinated with Joel-Peter Witkin, and not so much because I think his work is really beautiful or any such thing. It's just the idea of working with dead bodies and having to handle them without being phased by it that blows my mind.
He was also a source of inspiration for the Nine Inch Nails music video "Closer."
